Does Insurance Cover a Modesto Hit and Run Crash?

When you have been hurt in a pedestrian accident, you may feel stressed and overwhelmed over mounting medical expenses, loss of earnings, and the pain from the injuries you have suffered. However, the worry may be amplified in the case of a hit and run. Without the identity of the at-fault party, you may feel as if you are at a loss during this difficult time. Fortunately, there may be recourse available if you have auto insurance or live with someone who carries uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage.

Uninsured motorist coverage may come into play in situations where the driver responsible for a hit and run cannot be located. Such coverage may pay for bodily injury claims up to the limits of the policy. What most are unaware about uninsured motorist is that it may extend to other members of a household so long as the policyholder has not excluded such members from the insurance plan. Conversely, underinsured motorist may cover injured parties if the at-fault party carries insufficient bodily injury liability coverage.

While this may be a first-party insurance claim, that does not necessarily mean the insurer will always be fair when it comes to compensating the injured party for their medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering. A claimant will need an experienced Modesto personal injury attorney on their side to ensure they are fairly compensated for their traumatic injuries and losses incurred. It is also essential to hire an attorney who can work with experts such as private investigators to track down the at-fault party and identify potential sources of coverage. Potential Recovery from a Personal Injury Claim

Injuries from pedestrian accidents may be serious and debilitating. It is unfortunate the pedestrians often get blamed by negligent drivers and their insurance companies. However, an experienced injury lawyer is there to help an injured party get their life back on track and to obtain fair compensation on their behalf. In personal injury cases, a pedestrian hurt in a traffic collision may be entitled to economic and non-economic damages, such as:

  • Costs of past and future treatment for accident-related injuries
  • Lost wages for time missed at work to recover after a car versus pedestrian accident
  • Loss of future earnings because of a permanent injury or disability
  • Pain and suffering stemming from the motor vehicle collision
  • Scarring and disfigurement sustained in the incident
  • Property damage for clothing, watches, glasses, and other personal belongings damaged in the pedestrian crash

Before signing any documents or agreeing to any initial settlement offers from the insurance company, contact an attorney as soon as possible. Auto insurance carriers are in the business of protecting their profit margins and will do so by persuading injured parties into accepting lowball settlement offers before they understand their rights and the extent of damages incurred. Their goal is to devalue or deny your claim, while an attorney’s goal is to seek fair compensation on your behalf. Learn more by contacting us today for free, friendly advice.
