Hit-and-Run Crash Kills Tracy Man

I’m Ed Smith, a Tracy personal injury lawyer. A 20-year-old Tracy man was involved in a motor vehicle collision during the predawn hours of Saturday, April 22, 2017. The Tracy man was walking to the other car involved in the accident when an oncoming vehicle crashed into him. Unfortunately, the motorist of the vehicle fled from the scene, leaving the man to suffer fatal injuries.

What Happened?

A driver had parked their disabled 1999 Honda along the side of Highway 99 in the vicinity of the Main Street overpass in Ripon. The way the Honda was left on the edge of the highway apposed a safety hazard to oncoming traffic. This later proved true when a 20-year-old Tracy man traveling in his Chevrolet approached the Honda, drifted off the roadway and crashed with the disabled vehicle. The Chevrolet came to a rest along the number two lane of the highway. The Tracy man exited his vehicle and stood along the shoulder next to the Honda.

At that time, a 21-year-old woman was traveling in her 2012 Volkswagen while looking over at the driver standing along the right shoulder of the highway. The woman failed to see the Chevrolet and collided with the vehicle. Both cars came to a stop along the center median.

Hit-and-Run Driver Crashes Into Tracy Man

The Tracy man that was driving the Chevrolet walked into the traffic lanes when he was struck by an unknown gray car. The motorist of the gray car immediately drove away from the scene of the accident, leaving the victim to suffer from his injuries along the roadway.

Medical personnel was dispatched to the scene of the collision. When they arrived, they discovered that the Tracy man had succumbed to his injuries.

The 21-year-old woman driving the Volkswagen and her 22-year-old passenger were both transported via ambulance to separate hospitals in Modesto.

Our condolences are with the family members of the young man that passed away in this tragic hit-and-run accident.

Preventing Car Crashes from Disabled Vehicles

Although car crashes tend to be unpredictable, they may be prevented through exercising extra caution while driving. If your vehicle becomes disabled for whatever reason, it is best to pull over to a safe location that does not serve as a traffic hazard along the roadway. Always turn on the hazard lights of your vehicle during nighttime hours or inclement conditions to warn other approaching motorists. If you are unable to perform either of the previous actions, immediately contact 911 to dispatch a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer to render assistance at the scene. Exercising these safety precautions may prevent you or your loved ones from suffering injuries due to an automobile accident.
