Authorities are Seeking Driver in Hit-and-Run Crash

The caller said that the suspected hit-and-run driver rear-ended her Kia Soul at the intersection, causing it to crash into a Toyota Prius Hybrid. She also reported that there was a lot of fuel on the ground from her vehicle. The accident did not block traffic, and Sacramento Fire Department emergency responders arrived to determine that injuries had occurred in the crash. The CHP is conducting an investigation to find out how the crash occurred and to locate the fleeing driver.

An Injury Attorney’s Investigation of a Hit-and-Run

There are many instances in which a hit-and-run accident will lead to serious injuries or even fatalities. Over the years, our law office has successfully located fleeing drivers to hold them accountable for their actions. We believe it’s difficult enough for someone to be injured in an accident that wasn’t their fault. The responsible driver should be held liable for the trauma they caused as well as the pain and suffering.

Techniques Employed to Locate a Fleeing Driver

We employ investigative techniques that help us locate the fleeing driver. The investigation of a hit-and-run accident can be conducted in a number of ways by a personal injury lawyer. Our investigators begin by going to the site of the hit-and-run collision to gather evidence, such as paint marks and metal that can help identify the vehicle’s make and model.

Security cameras or dash cams will be reviewed next, along with any footage available of the incident. Also, any witnesses who saw what happened will be interviewed. Accident reconstruction is performed also, which details how the hit-and-run collision occurred and shows fault.

In the wake of gathering all of this information, our personal injury attorneys will begin to piece together what happened. Their next step will be to find the negligent driver using their resources. There may be a need to work with law enforcement or private investigators in some cases.

Insurance Coverage to Recover Damages

In California, all drivers are offered optional coverage for uninsured/underinsured motorists. Many motorists elect to take this add-on coverage because of the high number of drivers in the state who are either underinsured or have no insurance at all. The injured party can use this coverage to pay for at least part of their medical bills if the hit-and-run driver cannot be located. If the injured person does not carry this optional insurance but another family member does, that can be used without any penalty or increase in rates in the future.
