Pedestrian Accident on Hillsdale Boulevard Causes Injuries

A hit-and-run accident that resulted in injuries occurred on March 23 in Sacramento when a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle. The accident happened along Hillsdale Boulevard near Walerga Road in the Foothill Farms area at around 11:42 in the morning, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The pedestrian who was struck phoned police to report the accident, which they said occurred when the vehicle backed into them.

Authorities Actively Searching for Driver in Hit-and-Run Accident

The vehicle in question then continued on toward Walerga Road, according to the caller. The incident is under investigation, and the hit-and-run driver is being actively sought. No report was issued on whether the pedestrian was transported to a hospital or how serious the injuries were that they suffered.

Escalation of Hit-and-Run Accidents in California

The number of fleeing driver accidents has escalated dramatically in the past several years not only in Northern California but in the rest of the state. This has happened despite law enforcement efforts to penalize those involved in this type of behavior. It is difficult to say why a driver hits another vehicle or person and leaves the scene of the accident, but some of the following reasons might help to explain it:

  • The driver is drunk and does not want to be caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • The driver has warrants for his or her arrest and knows that remaining at the scene could lead to their apprehension.
  • The driver panics and leaves the scene without thinking about the consequences.
  • The driver has taken illegal drugs and fears they will be caught if they remain at the scene.
  • The motor vehicle operator lacks a proper license, registration, or car insurance.

Catching a Hit-and-Run Driver

Our firm uses proven techniques to apprehend a hit-and-run driver. Initially, we dispatch our investigators to the accident site to look for traces of paint or other materials left at the scene. We also question witnesses who may have seen the accident happen and can identify the driver or a portion of the license plate number. Since it’s been proven that many hit-and-run drivers live near the scene of the accident, our investigators canvas the neighborhood to try to gather information about the driver’s identity. We also obtain video footage of the accident to help determine liability.

How to Collect Damages When the Driver Leaves the Scene

A person injured in a hit-and-run accident worries that if the negligent driver is not apprehended, they will be responsible for the injuries the accident caused. Our firm believes that no one should be responsible for damages caused by another party. We do everything we can to find the hit-and-run driver and are often successful.

However, if the fleeing driver cannot be found, we help our client use their uninsured/underinsured automobile insurance to pay for the damages. This is an add-on policy that is offered to all Californians and covers the driver whether they are walking, bicycling, or driving.

If the injured party lacks this add-on and someone else in their family has opted in for the uninsured/underinsured policy, it can be used without any increase in the premium.
