Hit-and-Run Accident in Citrus Heights Causes Facial Injury

Accident Caused by Fleeing Driver on I-80 Results in an Injury

A hit-and-run accident occurred in Citrus Heights on December 16 that almost involved a security officer and his trainee. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as occurring around 10:30 at night along the I-80 westbound lanes near the exit ramp for Greenback Lane. The driver who caused the accident struck another vehicle, and, according to Corporal Dinkins, a Metro Surveillance Security officer in Sacramento, the woman driving the vehicle that was struck suffered facial injuries as a result of the collision.

Security Officers Render Aid After Hit-and-Run Accident

Officer Dinkins and Officer Phelps, his trainee, rendered medical assistance to the driver of the vehicle that was struck and ensured the safety of the scene until medics and Sac Metro Fire responders arrived at the accident site. The two security officers were not injured in the collision. The accident scene was cleared less than an hour later. The accident is being investigated to locate the fleeing driver and determine how the hit-and-run accident occurred.

Facial Injuries in a Traffic Accident

Facial injuries are common in traffic accidents and often cause a great deal of emotional as well as physical harm. Facial injuries cover the gamut from minor lacerations to fracture of the bones of the face and damage to teeth and eyes. One of the biggest problems with facial injuries is that full restoration is hampered by insurance refusal to cover what is conceived of as cosmetic surgery.

That is where we can help. Cosmetic surgery of this sort can involve numerous procedures that last over a period of months. There is no need for someone going through this extended, difficult time to have to worry about the cost. We include the cost of all facial injuries in our lawsuit against the at-fault party.

What Happens When the At-Fault Party Cannot Be Located

Although many hit-and-run accident perpetrators are located by police, some are not. This is disconcerting for clients who wonder how their medical bills and loss of wages for their serious injuries will be covered. At our firm, we work with authorities and send our investigators into the neighborhood to get as much information as they can. We also work with our clients to find alternate methods to pay their medical bills in the event the at-fault party cannot be found.

Using Your Uninsured/Underinsured Insurance to Pay Medical Bills

An injured party can use their own uninsured/underinsured insurance to pay for medical bills in an accident. This is an add-on policy offered to every California driver when they insure their vehicle. It is not mandatory, and some drivers choose not to have it. However, if any member of their family does carry this type of insurance, it can be used to cover their accident.

Uninsured/Underinsured Insurance Benefits in California

Roughly 15 percent of all California drivers do not have car insurance. This places a burden on people who are injured in an accident with them. In order to circumvent the problem, the state of California initiated an uninsured/underinsured policy for its drivers. Uninsured/underinsured insurance covers the injured person up to the limits of their policy. However, an umbrella policy is also offered, which is inexpensive and covers excess losses.

A Hit-and-Run Accident in California

The frequency of a hit-and-run accident in California has escalated in the past decade. Despite numerous penalties and efforts to curtail this type of accident, they continue to happen. From fear of being caught driving without a license to sheer panic, the reasons for a hit-and-run accident are numerous.

Investigating an Accident

We make every effort to help authorities locate the hit-and-run driver by examining the accident scene for evidence. We look for clues as to the make and model of the fleeing vehicle and interview witnesses for descriptions of the driver. We also obtain video footage from various sources that show the crash as it happened and do accident reconstruction.
