Highway 99 Traffic Decrease

Highway 99 is widely used by commuters and agricultural transporters in the state of California. However, it also creates more traffic during the busy hours of the day for the average driver on this highway.

Why?

Caltrans has created a multi-million dollar project to improve the commute on Highway 99. The project aims to improve the safety and commute for motorists on the freeway. According to Caltrans, they will be saving a Highway 99 commuter an an average of 4,722 hours due to this $214.5 million dollar project. The project is expected to be completed by December 2016.

How?

The lanes will be added from Crosstown Freeway in the vicinity of Highway 4 to Arch Road in Stockton. The expansion will ensure the safety of other motorists on the roadway as well as decrease the congestion of traffic.

Highway 99 Statistics

In a report last month conducted by Value Penguin, a private organization for consumer research, concluded that Highway 99 is the most dangerous freeway in the United States. Highway 99, which is the main method of transportation for many living in the California Central Valley, spans 400 miles long. There have been 264 fatal accidents on this freeway from 2011 to 2015. According to data reports obtained by Value Penguin from the National Traffic and Highway Safety Administration records, 50 motorists were driving under the influence of those 264 fatal crashes. Due to this reason, it has prompted Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol to work together on a project to make Highway 99 a safer route for motorists on the roadway.
