Highway 4 Crash Leaves Motorcyclist Critically Injured

Highway 4 Crash Leaves Motorcyclist Critically Injured – One motorcyclist sustained serious injuries on Monday, September 10, 2018, while traveling through Highway 4 near Brentwood. The unidentified male was hospitalized following the early morning accident, but authorities said that he is expected to survive. No one else was involved in the crash. It has not yet been specified as to what caused the accident. However, the accident still remains under investigation.

Accident Details

The rider crashed a silver motorcycle at approximately 6:40 a.m. while traveling across Highway 4 in the westbound lanes between Jeffrey Way and Sand Creek Road. While the origin of the accident has not been determined, some witnesses made statements to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicating that the motorcyclist was lane splitting across multiple lanes before crashing. Thankfully, no other vehicles or persons were involved in the accident.

Accident Aftermath

The injured motorcyclist was transferred to a hospital trauma center via medical helicopter for non-life-threatening injuries, according to CHP officials. There is no current update available on his condition. All westbound lanes on Highway 4 were blocked off immediately following the accident, and CHP issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic. Highway 4 was cleared up, and the Sig Alert was lifted around 7:30 a.m.

How to Reduce Motorcycle Accidents through Defensive Driving

Defensive driving is mainly thought of as a type of safety course that motorists can enroll in, but it is also a form of driving that can enhance your skills behind the wheel. Here are some examples of defensive driving techniques:

  • Sign up for a defensive motorcycle driving course. Whether you are new to the motorcycle lifestyle or an experienced rider, these courses can help everyone make smarter, safer, more responsible decisions.
  • Be extra attentive when approaching intersections, especially if you are making a left turn. According to the Federal Highway Administration, intersection-related accidents account for 40 percent of all motor vehicle accidents.
  • When approaching an intersection, let your hands remain on the clutch levers and brake if you may need to make an emergency turn or stop.
  • Install motorcycle headlamp modulators so that you may turn on your high beams to grab the attention of negligent or distracted drivers.
  • Educate yourself about avoidance maneuvers and practice them in a controlled environment.
  • Use caution when lane splitting, and always keep an eye out for any aggressive drivers or big vehicles.

Receiving Compensation for Accident-Related Injuries

Using defensive driving techniques can reduce the likelihood of getting into a crash, but accidents can still happen outside of your control. If a negligent driver caused an accident that involved you or a member of your family, you can seek financial compensation for any losses endured. Compensation is commonly claimed for any accident-related expenses, such as hospital bills, time off work, and more. Finding a seasoned motorcycle accident lawyer who can detail your rights as a motorcycle rider and fight for your rightful compensation is crucial to any claim.
