Highway 4 Crash Injures Tracy Couple

I’m Ed Smith, a Tracy personal injury lawyer. A head-on collision took place in Angels Camp during the morning hours of Friday, May 19, 2017. Unfortunately, the crash caused one victim to suffer traumatic injuries and claimed the life of another victim.

What Happened?

Ronald Torchia, a 52-year-old man from Columbia, was traveling westbound along Highway 4 near Stallion Way at about 10:30 am. Torchia was driving between 55 to 60 mph moments before he lost control of his 2007 Ford sedan and drove onto the shoulder of the highway. Torchia overcorrected his vehicle, which caused his car to drive into the path of oncoming traffic and collide head-on with a 1997 Nissan carrying a couple from Tracy.

Injury Report

Ronald Torchia suffered minor injuries as a result of the head-on collision. The driver of the 1997 Nissan, 60-year-old Robert Howard, suffered major injuries and was transported via air ambulance to a hospital in Modesto. Howard’s 58-year-old wife, Nancy, was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle at the time of the crash. Sadly, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

We extend our condolences to the family members and friends of Mrs. Howard who tragically lost her life in this accident. We send our thoughts for a speedy and full recovery to the other two men hurt in this collision.

What Caused the Head-On Crash?

Authorities have not yet released what caused the head-on crash. A Traffic Collision Report generally takes up to two weeks to be processed. However, officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) did not consider drugs nor alcohol as factors of the collision.
