Highway 37 Truck Accident Results in Deadly Trauma

On Monday, August 24, 2020, a Highway 37 truck accident left one person with fatal injuries. Local officials are currently withholding the decedent’s identity. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash involved three vehicles, including a large semi-truck. Whether or not any other individuals suffered injuries during the incident has not been reported and this crash remains under CHP investigation at this time.

Crash Details

The collision took place in the morning around sunrise at 6:15 a.m. on the westbound side of Highway 37 near Sears Point, not far from Vallejo. According to CHP reports, a semi-truck was approaching the traffic light located at the intersection of Highway 121.

Police indicated that the truck driver slammed on the brakes of his vehicle in an apparent attempt to avoid running a red light. However, the truck collided with a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck inside the intersection. The collision sent the Tacoma off-course, causing it to collide with a nearby Subaru, which spun out. The Toyota reportedly came to a halt after crashing into a cement divider in the center of the highway.

Response

CHP received a phone call regarding the accident and immediately sent out a response team. When responding officials arrived, they found that the driver of the Tacoma had been critically injured. Sadly, officials pronounced the driver deceased at the scene.

According to reports, the westbound side of Highway 37 was closed to traffic between Mare Island and the site of the accident until around 11:45 a.m. while response and a preliminary collision investigation were underway. The left-hand turn from eastbound 37 onto Highway 121 was also closed.

Investigation

As police continue with their accident investigation, no suspected collision factors have been reported. In many cases, collisions like this one involve non-driver causes such as issues with the road and/or defective truck parts.

Furthermore, police often have trouble investigating fatal accidents because they aren’t able to question the decedent about what took place. This means that officers may not uncover crucial evidence. The best thing you can do to make sure the accident is thoroughly investigated is to work with a skilled Vallejo wrongful death lawyer who knows how to privately investigate accidents with the rights of families as a priority.

Truck Accidents and Quick Action

Big-rigs are most often owned by a holding company and these companies usually operate an entire fleet of similar vehicles. For this reason, trucking companies are ready to defend themselves from financial responsibility after crashes and typically take action right away. In many cases, the company will send out their own legal team to the crash site in order to conduct their own collision scene investigations.

Because trucking companies take such aggressive actions, it’s very important to call an attorney as soon as you possibly can. If your attorney is able to begin working on your case early on, they will be more able to ensure you and your loved ones receive the compensation that you deserve.
