Pickup Rear-Ended in High-Speed Collision Near Airport Boulevard

A high-speed collision along Interstate 5 northbound near the Airport Boulevard off-ramp occurred on December 2. A woman in a sedan was reported to have crashed into the back of a pickup truck. According to witness reports, the sedan had been swerving prior to the traffic collision. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), both vehicles were in the center divide, and the accident involved a Toyota Corolla, which struck a Dodge Ram pickup. A tow truck was called to remove the pickup because of severe damage to its axle, and a flatbed trailer was needed to haul it away. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to assess injuries in the crash. There has been no word yet concerning the nature or intensity of the injuries. The high-speed collision is under investigation to see how the crash occurred and to place fault.

Rear-End Collisions

Most rear-end collisions are caused by driver error. They are much worse when the crash involves a high-speed collision. Aside from speeding, the driver may be distracted or too fatigued to be behind the wheel of a passenger vehicle. However, there are some accidents of this type that have other causes. These can include:

  • Mechanical problems: A stuck accelerator, bad brakes, or problems with the steering can lead to a high-speed collision. In these cases, the manufacturer and others can be held financially responsible through a products liability lawsuit.
  • Roadway dangers: A road that has been poorly maintained may have slick spots, potholes, or fissures that can cause an accident where someone is crashed into from the rear. Overhanging branches or overgrown shrubbery may obscure a sign so that the motorist does not realize they should stop. The government entity in charge of the upkeep of this area may be held responsible. However, government claims have a much shorter period in which a case can be filed. If it is filed after this deadline, the case will not be heard. Having an attorney ensures that all documents will reach the appropriate government office in a timely manner.
  • Medication problems: Being given the wrong medication by a physician or pharmacist or not being warned of possible side effects can cause a high-speed collision.

How a Lawyer Investigates Your Claim

Investigation is key to the success of a personal injury claim. That is why we dispatch our investigative team to the site of the accident. They search the area for evidence as to why the accident happened and obtain videos from traffic surveillance cameras and nearby businesses and homes. We also review police reports for mistakes since they are used in negotiations with the insurance company and in court. Our investigators interview witnesses who saw the accident happen and use accident reconstruction techniques to determine liability. Once this information is amassed, the investigative team releases it to our lawyers, who use it to build a strong case in our client’s favor.
