Accident on Silverado Trail Causes a Major Injury

A head-on collision near Calistoga in Napa Valley caused both drivers to be transported to a hospital, one of whom suffered major injuries on March 23. The accident, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), occurred along Silverado Trail, close to Clover Flat Road around 6:55 a.m. One of the drivers, Sonoma resident Javier Torres, age 22, was transported by ambulance with major injuries to Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center. The other driver, Napa resident Erik Kiser, age 59, was also transported with moderate injuries to Queen.

The accident report states that Torres was in a Toyota Corolla when the vehicle crossed the centerline for unknown reasons into the path of the Jeep Cherokee being driven by Kiser. The impact of the crash caused the Jeep to experience a rollover on the shoulder of the roadway. Torres had to be extricated from his vehicle by firefighters before he could be transported for medical attention.

Recovering Compensation Following a Head-On Collision

A head-on collision often causes severe injuries. In the event of an accident caused by a negligent or reckless driver, you need a law firm that prioritizes your needs over all else. We dispatch investigators to inspect the crash site to establish fault. By collecting evidence to support your claim, including accident reconstruction, traffic camera footage, witness statements and others, we can build a strong case.

Why Does a Head-On Collision Occur?

Head-on collisions can happen for a number of reasons, but the majority are due to negligence by another driver. Reasons include:

  • Speed: Those who speed around a curve are at a higher risk of losing control of their vehicle and ending up in the opposite lane. This can result in a head-on collision.
  • Improper passing: A driver who passes someone who is approaching from the opposite direction even though the view up ahead is blocked poses a serious risk.
  • Wrong-way driver: Taking the wrong ramp onto a freeway or driving incorrectly down a one-way street can result in a head-on collision. A drunken or drugged individual is more likely to commit these crimes.
  • Drunk drivers: While drunk, your cognition and reflexes can be impaired, causing you to make risky maneuvers and poor decisions that can lead to a head-on collision or other serious accident.
  • Distracted drivers: Distracted driving includes answering a phone call, sending a text message or conversing with a passenger. A few seconds are all that it takes to move to the opposite lane after you look away.
  • Fatigued drivers: Driver fatigue can seriously affect the ability to operate a vehicle safely. Exhaustion can have the same effect as impaired driving. The most common cause of fatigued driver accidents is dozing off or closing their eyes momentarily to rest them. In many cases, drivers are unaware they are too tired to be driving until it is too late.

Accident lawyers are capable of finding out which driver/drivers caused a traffic collision. By investigating to determine fault and collecting the evidence to support a client’s claim for compensation, they can recover the costs of their medical expenses associated with the collision, their lost wages, and damages for their pain and suffering.
