Accident at Off-Ramp for Arena Boulevard Involves Three Vehicles

One person suffered a possible head injury in a three-vehicle crash along northbound Interstate 5 on September 1. The collision occurred at the Arena Boulevard off-ramp around 9:40 in the morning, according to the police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). It involved a Nissan Maxima, Toyota Sienna van, and a Toyota SUV, which blocked the number one lane.

Head Injury Suspected in One of the Crash Accident Drivers

It was reported by authorities that a male in one of the vehicles might have a head injury, however, they were unable to get the door open. Responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to assess injuries and extricate the driver in the Nissan. No report was issued on whether that individual was treated at the scene or transported to a nearby hospital.

Impaired Driving Might Have Been a Factor in the Accident

Drunk or drugged driving was not ruled out as a factor in the collision. A phlebotomist was called in to test one of the drivers, who may have been intoxicated. The accident is being investigated by the CHP to determine why it happened and to assign fault.

Recovering Compensation Following a Head Injury

Head trauma can have a catastrophic effect on the injured party and their family. A head injury can make it hard for the injured person to carry out routine duties, successfully complete tasks at work and interact with family members. If the injured party also contributes to the family’s financial base, a head injury can make it harder to pay household bills.

This outcome should not be paid for by the injured party, especially since a continuing head injury can result in high medical bills and possible disability. In some cases, the family takes the brunt of these expenses and struggles to make ends meet. However, by filing a personal injury claim, the costs of all the medical expenses, lost wages and compensation for the injured party’s pain and suffering can be recovered.

Types of Head Injuries

Head injuries can range from minor to life-threatening. The level and extent of the injury can determine the type of care, length of time, and whether that individual will be able to recover or not. Head injuries can include:

  • Concussion: A concussion is the most common head injury. Most concussions heal within a few months with minimal treatment. However, the injured party can go on to show symptoms for a long time.
  • Hematoma: A hematoma is bleeding within the skull that causes clots. The swelling it causes can damage the nerves or brain.
  • Skull fracture: A head injury that breaks the bone of the skull can heal on its own if it is minor. More serious skull fractures can cause seizures, brain damage, bleeding or even infection.
  • Brain bleeds: Such bleeds can occur inside the skull or the brain tissue itself. A hemorrhage of this type can be life-threatening and interfere with oxygen flow. The outcome depends on the location in which it occurred and overall health and age as well as the amount of time it took to diagnose it.
