Hayward Hit-and-Run on I-880 Leaves One Injured
Injury Reported in Hayward Hit-and-Run Crash Near Tennyson Road
A Hayward hit-and-run on northbound Interstate 880 left at least one person injured on the afternoon of December 2. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the collision, which occurred just south of the Tennyson Road off-ramp around 4:38 p.m. According to officials at the scene, the crash involved two vehicles, a Nissan Rogue and a Honda Pilot.
Hayward Hit-and-Run Fleeing Driver Sought
The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. However, the other driver fled before law enforcement arrived. CHP traffic collision officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and are actively searching for the hit-and-run driver. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Hayward Area CHP Office.
How Lawyers Track a Hit-and-Run Driver
An accident lawyer locates a Hayward hit-and-run driver by quickly preserving evidence and using legal tools that are not easily available to the general public. This work is critical to proving fault, identifying all sources of insurance coverage, and maximizing the injured person’s financial recovery.
- Interviewing witnesses and canvassing nearby homes and businesses for video from traffic, security, and doorbell cameras that may show the fleeing vehicle, its license plate, or direction of travel.
- Collecting and analyzing physical evidence such as paint transfer, broken lights or bumper pieces, and skid marks, often with the help of accident reconstruction experts and, when needed, private investigators.
- Using police reports, DMV-accessible records, online plate-lookup services, body shop inquiries, and social media or community reports to connect a specific vehicle and driver to the collision.
Damages If the Driver Is Found
When the hit-and-run driver is identified and proven responsible, the injured person can usually pursue a bodily injury claim or lawsuit against that driver and their insurer. Recoverable damages often include:
- Medical expenses for past and future treatment, including hospital care, surgery, physical therapy, and rehabilitation.
- Lost income and loss of earning capacity, property damage, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and, in serious cases, permanent disability or loss of enjoyment of life.
Using Your Own Auto Insurance
If the Hayward hit-and-run driver cannot be located, an injured person may still have options through their own automobile policy. If the injured party does not have the appropriate auto insurance coverage but another family member does, theirs can be used without an increase in rates. Depending on the coverage purchased, these may include:
- Uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage (UM) for medical bills, pain and suffering, and lost wages when the at-fault driver has no insurance or cannot be identified.
- Medical payments (MedPay) coverage to help pay medical bills regardless of fault, and collision coverage to repair or replace a damaged vehicle, subject to deductibles and policy limits.
