Grass Valley Fatal Pedestrian Accident
On the evening of Saturday, February 25, 2017, a 69-year-old man from Grass Valley was struck by a vehicle traveling on Sutton Way in Grass Valley.
What Happened?
The Grass Valley Police Department received multiple calls around 6:25 p.m. from people reporting a possible hit-and-run auto accident involving a pedestrian near the 300 block of Sutton Way. When officers and first responders arrived on the scene, they discovered the driver of the vehicle who hit the pedestrian was at the scene; it is unknown if the driver left the scene and returned before officers arrived or if witnesses who reported the accident did not see the driver.
Were There Injuries?
The pedestrian involved in the collision suffered traumatic injuries and was transported to an area hospital by ambulance for treatment. Sadly, the man succumbed to his injuries shortly after he arrived at the hospital. The vehicle driver suffered no injuries and declined medical attention at the scene.
Ongoing Investigation
The Grass Valley Police Department is conducting an investigation of this tragic accident. Officials are trying to establish if the man was injured and disabled in the street before being struck by the vehicle or if the accident caused all of his injuries. Witnesses of the accident were not able to provide officers with much information. Officers do not believe driving under the influence, distracted driving, or speed to be contributing factors in this collision.
