Barton Road Intersection Accident Caused by Running a Red Light

An intersection accident in Granite Bay, resulting in a fatality and injuries, occurred on July 16 after the driver of a Jeep ran a red light. The accident happened at the Barton Road intersection with Douglas Boulevard at about 5:45 p.m. A report of the accident by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said when the Jeep ran the red light, it crashed into a Cadillac Escalade.

One Passenger Killed and Two Injured in Intersection Accident

Due to the impact of the accident, the Jeep overturned, killing a passenger in the back seat and causing minor trauma to several other passengers. The Escalade driver was uninjured in the crash. Those who were injured in the collision were taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for evaluation and care. An investigation has begun into the cause of the collision by CHP traffic detectives to determine why the vehicle ran the red light.

Driver Responsibility for Passengers in an Intersection Accident

Driver responsibility for passengers includes ensuring that their passengers observe safety protocols, but the one behind the wheel of the vehicle must also drive responsibly to avoid any potential accidents. Drivers who act irresponsibly can be held liable for accident injuries to their passengers. They may also be held liable if a passenger dies in an accident caused by the neglectful driver.

Filing a Claim for Wrongful Death

When a family loses their loved one in an intersection accident where the driver was negligent, they have the right to recover compensation by filing a wrongful death claim. By filing, they may recover the end-of-life expenses, wages the deceased might have earned until retirement age, and pain and suffering, among others.

Personal Injury Claims

When the driver of a vehicle causes injuries to a passenger due to their reckless actions behind the wheel, the injured party may recover compensation. By placing a personal injury claim, they may recover:

  • Medical expenses that arose as a result of the intersection accident, such as hospital costs, doctors’ bills, surgeries, testing and rehabilitative care.
  • Wages lost due to the inability to work are recoverable, including pension and insurance benefits, bonuses, and more. If permanent disability occurs, the injured person can recover their salary until retirement age. Should the injured person not be able to perform their job and have to take another position for less money, the difference is recovered.
  • Pain and suffering include the physical effects as well as the emotional and psychological damage.
