Accident on Ayers Lane Caused by Hit-and-Run Driver

A hit-and-run on March 14 in Galt left a minor on life support after she was struck while walking her dog. The accident occurred along Ayers Lane, between Trellis Lane and Nathaniel Avenue, when the high school sophomore was walking her pitbull “Bubba.” According to a report by the Galt Police Department, the police are asking for help from the public to locate the driver and vehicle that struck the girl. The young pedestrian reportedly suffered head trauma with brain bleeding, multiple broken bones and other injuries in the collision.

Neighbors Describe Area as Dangerous Due to New Housing Development

The minor was within a few yards of her home when she was struck. Loved ones describe her as vibrant and friendly. Neighbors living on that street describe the area as dangerous due to traffic due to the construction of a housing development. By opening the roadway, one said that different cars were passing through the area. Another neighbor said they were thinking about moving due to safety concerns.

Information Sought by Galt Police to Locate Fleeing Driver

A friend of the family has established a fundraiser to help out with medical bills and provide support for the teen’s mother, who will need to be off work to care for her daughter during her recovery. Those who have information about this accident or the hit-and-run driver are being asked to call Detective Mark Fewel (209) 366-7005. Their information will be anonymous.

Pedestrian Fatalities

The Governors Highway Safety Association says their statistics show that in 2020 the rate of pedestrian fatalities rose around 21 percent. Some blame anxiety and drinking due to the pandemic as a cause of reckless behavior behind the wheel of a car. Seven states, including California, account for 54 percent of all pedestrian fatalities

Tracking Down the Hit-and-Run Driver

Our hit-and-run investigators have been successful in many instances over the years in finding drivers. The following methods can be used to locate fleeing drivers:

  • In order to locate the driver, it is crucial to identify the vehicle that fled the scene. Due to this, our investigators are quick to arrive at the scene of the accident to begin collecting evidence.
  • Investigators also examine the scene for metal fragments and paint dropped there. These items can be used to determine which type of vehicle it is and what year it was manufactured since they are specific to certain years and manufacturers.
  • Traffic surveillance cameras at nearby businesses and homes may recover video footage of the accident, which helps identify the vehicle and may even picture the driver.
  • Interviews are conducted with anyone who may have seen the accident. Many witnesses will be able to describe or identify the vehicle that leaves the scene. Other witnesses may be able to identify the driver. In addition, a witness may have recorded the accident on their cell phone.
  • Investigators review police accident reports to ensure they are accurate. A client may lose the ability to file a claim for compensation if the report contains a mistake.
  • In accident reconstruction, the vehicles are seen in their original positions before the collision occurs, how the accident took place, and where they ended up at the end. This helps identify who was at fault for the collision.

We build a case supporting our client’s claim for compensation by using evidence gathered by our investigators.
