Fresno County Double Fatality Accident

Fresno County Double Fatality Accident

A Fresno County double fatality accident occurred on the night of March 4 along Highway 180 near Hayes Avenue, just west of Fresno. According to a preliminary report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a man was driving a 2018 Mercedes-Benz eastbound along the westbound lane of Highway 180 shortly after 11:00 p.m. At the same time, a woman was driving a 2015 Honda west along the highway and was unable to avoid the oncoming Mercedes-Benz. This resulted in a head-on collision. Sadly, both drivers succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Officials have identified the decedents as 22-year-old Yvette Jimenez of Firebaugh and 23-year-old Emad Murshed of Kerman. I would like to send my sincere thoughts and condolences to the loved ones of Ms. Jimenez and Mr. Murshed in their time of loss.

Investigation of the Fresno County Double Fatality Accident

The cause of the car accident is under investigation by CHP. However, officials believe drunk driving may have been a factor in the head-on collision.

Common Reasons for Head-On Collisions

All types of car accidents can be dangerous, but head-on collisions are particularly hazardous. This is due to the area of impact and speed traveled by each vehicle involved. Some of the common reasons for these crashes include:

  • Distracted driving
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Failure to adjust driving to roadway conditions, low visibility or inclement weather
  • Fatigued driving
  • Ignoring traffic signals and signs
  • Overtaking a slower vehicle in a no passing zone
  • Traveling along undivided, rural two-lane roads

Common Injuries in a Head-On Collision

Serious injuries can result in a head-on collision. These may include cervical sprain, dashboard knee, head injuries, spinal cord injuries and more. In some extreme cases, fatal injuries may be suffered by drivers and passengers involved in these crashes. When this happens, the family of the deceased may be able to seek damages from the at-fault party for their loved one’s death.
