Accident on I-80 Involves Multiple Vehicles

A freeway accident involving multiple vehicles occurred along Interstate 80 westbound on February 27. The police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that Sacramento Fire Department first responders also arrived at the scene, which occurred around 9:00 p.m. at the exit ramp for El Camino Avenue. Three to four vehicles were involved in the collision, which shut down all the westbound lanes.

Those involved in the freeway accident suffered moderate and minor injuries, and an unknown number of people were transported to a hospital for additional treatment and evaluation. The accident is under investigation by the CHP to determine its cause.

Complications of a Freeway Accident

Everyone has ridden on the freeway when there has been a huge backup because of an accident up ahead. Because cars and trucks are moving at higher speeds, it can easily cause a freeway accident. Since they are close together, a freeway accident can end up involving multiple vehicles. The problem is when you are injured, how do you determine who was at fault? Unless you have that information, you can’t place a claim.

A Personal Injury Lawyer Can Help

A personal injury attorney with experience in handling multiple-vehicle freeway accidents can help you get fair compensation. Those who have been injured by a negligent driver/drivers may place a claim for:

  • Medical expenses, including ambulance fees, hospitalization, specialists, surgeries, medication, and rehabilitation, are allowed. The injured person may also claim the cost of home health care if it is needed or changes to the home to make it easier.
  • Lost wages, including any bonuses or other monies that come with the job, are allowed to be claimed. If the injured person has to take a demotion because they can no longer do their assigned work, the difference in pay is included.
  • If the injury is expected to continue into the future, those expenses are calculated into the settlement figure, whether medical or job-related.
  • Noneconomic damages are allowed that relate to pain and suffering. However, it includes more than physical problems and can cover emotional and psychological damage to you and your loved ones. This can include loss of consortium, loss of the ability to enjoy life, the damage to your relationship with your children and others.
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder occurs in a certain number of people who have been injured in a traumatic freeway accident. Recovery of damages is possible if the injured person is under professional care for PTSD. Symptoms can include anxiety, nightmares or sleeplessness, fear of getting in a vehicle again, and others.

Investigation of a Freeway Accident

In order to place a compensation claim against the at-fault party/parties, evidence has to be gathered. This is where our investigative team comes in. Among other areas:

  • The investigators perform accident reconstruction to show the positioning of the vehicles before, during, and after the freeway accident. This type of investigative evidence is widely used in court and by insurance companies.
  • They check the police report for errors and interview the witnesses.
  • Roadway, business, and traffic surveillance cameras are checked to see if the collision was captured on film.
