Four Injured After Car Accident in Downtown Modesto

Four people, including a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer, were injured after a recent car accident in downtown Modesto, CA. The motor vehicle collision occurred shortly before 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of H Street and Sixth Street. A 2018 Hyundai sedan and a 2015 Honda SUV were both headed northbound on 6th Street, approaching the intersection. At the same time, a CHP officer in a patrol vehicle was driving westbound on H Street, also approaching the intersection. All three cars entered the intersection. The fronts of both the Hyundai and the Honda collided with the driver’s side of the CHP vehicle. An investigation by the CHP has not yet determined whether the Hyundai and Honda or the CHP officer had the green light. However, a witness to the accident informed a local news outlet that the CHP officer ran a red light. The drivers of the Hyundai and the Honda, as well as a passenger in the Hyundai, all suffered minor injuries. The passenger received treatment at the scene while the motorists were transported to Memorial Medical Center for treatment. The CHP officer was transported to Doctors Medical Center for treatment of major injuries. An update regarding their conditions has not yet been released by authorities.

Who Pays for Injuries in a Downtown Modesto Car Accident?

People injured in car accidents may be entitled to financial compensation for their injuries. To recover monetary damages, injured people must file a personal injury claim against the at-fault party. However, it is essential for injured parties to understand that a lawsuit must be filed within a specific deadline if all attempts at a fair settlement offer with the other driver’s insurance company fail. The amount of time a claim for damages must be filed is known as the statute of limitations. In California, a car accident claim follows a two-year statute of limitations. However, this statutory deadline may differ in the case of a motor vehicle accident involving a government entity. When a crash is caused by a driver employed by a government agency like CHP or the Modesto Police Department (Modesto PD), a notice of claim must be filed with that government entity within six months or 180 days from the date of the crash. If the case is not filed within this time limit, the case may be dismissed by the court. To ensure all filing criteria and deadlines are met for your personal injury case, it is best to work with an experienced personal injury lawyer in Modesto.
