Foothill Farms Multi-vehicle Accident

Foothill Farms Multi-vehicle Accident

A Foothill Farms multi-vehicle accident occurred at a local intersection on March 20. It involved three vehicles and a hit-and-run. The collision happened at Palm Avenue and Walnut Avenue at about 2:38 in the afternoon and included a red Mitsubishi, silver Nissan Sentra, and another unnamed vehicle. According to a report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), two of the cars collided in the intersection, which in turn caused one of those cars to strike a parked vehicle.

Details of the Foothill Farms Multi-vehicle Accident

The CHP reported that the two vehicles that collided in the Foothill Farms multi-vehicle accident ended up blocking the intersection. An individual said to be in their 40s exited one of the vehicles and ran away from the accident site. Two parties involved in the crash were transported to a local hospital with what were described as major injuries. Their identities have not yet been released. Drunk or drugged driving may have been a contributing factor in the Foothill Farms multi-vehicle accident because a blood technician was notified to take a sample from at least one person involved in the crash. Both vehicles were removed from the accident scene by tow trucks, and the intersection was closed to traffic for about one hour while an investigation ensued, and debris was cleared from the site.

Drunk Driving

Drunk driving refers to anyone behind the wheel of a car who tests at or above 0.08 on a Breathalyzer test. However, consuming even small amounts of alcohol can affect the driver. Since it can take between half an hour and two hours for the alcohol to enter the bloodstream, harmful side effects that influence the ability to drive safely can last for an extended period. Some of those side effects include:

  • Slowed reaction time: Alcohol consumption affects a driver’s ability to respond quickly in a situation and increases the risk of a major injury crash. For example, if a car stops in front of you suddenly, your brain takes a longer time to process that information and stop your vehicle. This can cause a rear-end collision.
  • Reduced ability to concentrate: Driving safely requires your undivided attention to keep an eye out for dangers. Because your attention span is significantly decreased when you’ve been drinking, it increases the likelihood of a Foothill Farms multi-vehicle accident.
  • Judgment: Reduced ability to judge due to alcohol consumption means that the driver cannot make decisions as easily. Being cognizant of surrounding conditions and staying alert is essential to avoid a major injury crash.
  • Coordination is affected: Driving safely means that the eyes, feet, and hands must be coordinated. Those who have been drinking may have problems walking or standing up straight. This would certainly inhibit their ability to drive safely and could end up causing a crash with a motor vehicle, pedestrian or bicycle rider.
  • Visual acuity: Drinking can make vision blurry and cause the driver to have difficulty controlling eye movement. It also affects the driver’s ability to judge distances and their peripheral vision.
