Flat Tire Leads to Fatal Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento defective tire accident lawyer. A man lost his life in a deadly head-on crash after something went terribly wrong with his tire while driving in the Arden Arcade area on Sunday night. The man who passed away has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner as 50-year-old, Marc W. Byerley of Sacramento.

Truck Drove Over Median and Crashed

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Byerley was travelling south along Watt Avenue in Sacramento. Just north of Marconi Avenue he developed a flat tire. Witnesses who saw the event said Byerley’s truck crossed over a median and crashed head-on with a northbound Ford Explorer

One Fatality and Other Minor to Moderate Injuries

Sadly, Byerley passed away as a result of his injuries. The driver and occupants inside the Ford Explorer all survived. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment of moderate and minor injuries resulting from the head-on crash.

Defective Tire Accidents

When we buy new tires for our car or truck, we presume that proper and careful maintenance will reduce the risk of traffic accidents caused by tire failure. Unfortunately, tires that have recently been purchased can be compromised by unsafe design or flaws in manufacturing. When a tire blows out or develops tread separation, the consequences can be devastating. There may be potential for a vehicle rollover accident and/or a fatal roadway departure crash. Despite potential dangers like the ones just described, consumers usually don’t give much thought to the tires on a car or truck when making the purchase. Although the resulting rollover and/or road departure crash often cause injuries that are catastrophic, federal traffic safety agencies, such as the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), provide little help and guidance regarding tire safety other than reminding consumers to properly inflate their tires to the recommended tire pressure levels as well as rotating, aligning and balancing the tires on their vehicles.

If you think a defective tire may have been involved in your vehicle accident – be sure to preserve the vehicle and tire and call an experienced lawyer right away.
