Five Injured in Fresno County Head-On Collision

Five people were injured in a Fresno County head-on collision on the evening of July 17, 2019. The car accident occurred shortly after 6:40 p.m. near Minnewawa Avenue and Lincoln Avenue. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a 27-year-old man was driving a white Subaru Impreza WRX northbound when he veered into the oncoming traffic lane. The Subaru then crashed head-on with a silver Honda. The Subaru driver and his passenger were transported to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. The three women riding inside the Honda were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Updated information regarding the conditions of those injured was not immediately available.

Common Injuries in a Fresno County Head-On Collision

A head-on collision can cause some of the most devastating injuries imaginable. This is due to the area of impact and speed traveled by each vehicle. Such forces can result in bone fractures, facial scarring, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, or internal trauma. These injuries often worsen if an occupant is pinned inside a vehicle or propelled from it. If an occupant is trapped, it may take some time for first responders to extricate them. This may cause significant blood loss or crushing pressure on organs, which highlights the importance of immediate medical care after an accident.

Who Pays for Medical Bills in a Fresno County Head-On Collision?

Seeking medical attention immediately after a car accident is critical. It is not only best for your well-being, but it also documents your condition and symptoms following the car wreck. Symptoms of specific trauma such as a traumatic brain injury (TBI) may not present itself in the aftermath of a crash. Even if you are unaware that you have suffered a TBI, your medical records can establish that your symptoms are consistent with the injury. After you have set up a treatment plan with your doctor, you will need to file a third-party claim with the at-fault driver’s insurance company for reimbursement of medical bills and other personal injury damages. An injury lawyer can help you through this process while you recover from your injuries. For details on what to look for in a reputable attorney, watch the below video.

Is There Enough Insurance?

When catastrophic injuries are suffered in a head-on collision, this may present challenging issues in the case if surgeries and other medical treatments are involved. If the driver responsible for the crash has little to no insurance, the injured person may turn to their own car insurance policy for coverage of those expenses. This is possible only if the injured person carries uninsured/underinsured motorist protection. This can help pay for losses caused by a driver who has insufficient coverage or none at all. This includes reimbursement of medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Do I Need an Attorney?

Liability in a head-on collision is often disputed by insurance companies and their insured. This is why it is critical to have an attorney at your side early on in a personal injury case. An attorney can help by conducting an independent investigation into the crash to prove negligence on the part of the other driver. This may involve hiring experts such as crash reconstructionists to expose evidence such as road marks. This can help indicate whether the responsible motorist attempted to stop or not to avoid a collision. A lawyer can also obtain video surveillance of the crash to build a strong case for fair compensation. If all attempts at a fair settlement fail with an insurance company, the lawyer can take the case to civil court, if needed.
