Fire Engine Collides with Sedan in Serious Napa Auto Accident

On Tuesday, June 30, 2020, an engine from Cal Fire was involved in a serious Napa auto accident. Information from California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the accident involved one other vehicle in addition to the fire engine and left one person with major injuries. Updates on the condition of the injured individual have not yet been reported and CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.

Crash Information

CHP officers said that the accident happened on Highway 221 near the intersection of Streblow Drive in the area of Napa Valley College. Just before noon, the fire engine was on its way from a nearby Cal Fire station on Monticello Road to an out-of-county fire located near Clayton. Details about how the incident occurred have not been reported, however, photos of the crash show major damage to the front end of a light-gray Camry sedan.

Officials responding to the accident stated that none of the three Cal Fire employees involved in the accident suffered injuries. However, the female Camry driver was discovered with major trauma. The woman was transported to the Queen of the Valley Hospital for immediate treatment.

Investigation

The southbound side of the highway was closed to traffic from Napa State Hospital to Magnolia Drive during the initial response and preliminary investigation. Later on, the closure was extended to Imola Avenue and southbound traffic was detoured through Highway 29, creating traffic backups throughout the entire day.

So far, authorities haven’t indicated what factors could have possibly caused this accident. Many collisions like this one occur because of things not under driver control, such as dangerous issues with the road or defective auto parts like brakes and accelerators.

Personal Injury Cases Involving Government Vehicles

After a serious car accident, survivors are often left with major injuries that can require extensive medical care involving surgery, physical therapy, medication use, and more. Furthermore, a serious injury can affect your ability to work, making it even harder to pay for the medical care you need.

Thankfully, injured parties are frequently able to claim payments for the damages described above by filing an injury claim. However, with cases that involve a government vehicle, injury claims can be more complicated. One of the most important differences is that injured parties need to file their claim within 180 days (or six months) of the accident date, or it will be thrown out. While the stated reason for this time limit is to alert governments to possible issues with their vehicles, it can make things difficult for crash survivors. Because of this, it’s very important that people injured in crashes involving government-owned vehicles reach out to a Napa personal injury lawyer as soon as possible.
