18-Year-Old Man Killed After Fiery Truck Crash on Highway 50 Near Mayhew Road in Sacramento
An 18-year-old man died after a fiery truck crash on Highway 50 near Mayhew Road in Sacramento early Sunday morning, October 17, 2025, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. as the man was driving a Toyota pickup truck eastbound on Highway 50, just west of Mayhew Road. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered onto the right-hand shoulder and collided with a changeable message sign, authorities said.
The impact caused the truck to ignite in flames, leaving the driver trapped inside. Despite emergency efforts, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
CHP investigators reported that the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, and no other cars were involved.
Safe Driving Reminder
Single-vehicle crashes, especially those involving rollovers or fires, often stem from fatigue, distraction, or impaired driving. Drivers can reduce the risk of tragedy by:
- Staying alert and avoiding late-night driving when tired.
- Pulling over safely if drowsy or distracted.
- Performing regular vehicle maintenance to prevent mechanical issues.
Taking extra care on long or quiet stretches of highway can make the difference between a close call and a fatal crash.
