Fiery Crash in Folsom Kills Porsche Driver

I’m Ed Smith, a Folsom car accident lawyer. A deadly accident in Folsom on March 21 claimed the life of an unidentified driver in a two-vehicle accident.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my condolences to the family and friends of the driver, for their loss of a loved one, as result of this tragic incident.

Accident Details

According to a representative of the police department in Folsom, the crash happened shortly before noon close to the intersection of Blue Ravine Road and East Bidwell.  The driver of a black Porsche was reportedly traveling west at a fast speed. The driver lost control, crossed to the other side and crashed head-on with a white pickup traveling east.

Aftermath of the Collision

The Porsche burst into flames with the driver still inside. Witnesses to the accident reported hearing explosions as the vehicle caught fire. While passersby attempted to pull the driver from the vehicle, they were unsuccessful due to the flame’s intensity. Both vehicles were destroyed in the collision and resulting fire.

Crash Injuries and Road Closure

Two other individuals involved in the crash were injured in the collision and transported to a hospital for treatment. The accident resulted in Blue Ravine Road being closed between East Bidwell and Riley for about three hours. The accident scene was investigated and wreckage cleared. At this time, no updates have been released on the condition of those who were hospitalized. The name of the Porsche driver is not expected to be released until family has been notified.

Speeding and Accidents

Speeding caused 10,111 traffic deaths in 2016, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The government agency also reported that speeding contributed to 27 percent of traffic fatalities. The reasons speeding is so dangerous are:

  • the driver is more likely to lose control of the vehicle.
  • stopping distance is reduced, making a crash more likely.
  • increased speed causes more serious injuries.
  • air bags and seat belts don’t work as well in higher speed collisions.

How to Deal With Speeders on the Road

Most people agree that speeders are dangerous. However, there are things a driver can do to stay safer when they spot a speeder or reckless driver on the road.

  • If someone speeding wants to pass your vehicle in the fast lane, allow them to do so by moving over.
  • If you are being followed by a tailgater, move over out of the way rather than speed up to outdistance the vehicle
  • If you spot dangerous behavior on the road such as speeding or other forms of reckless driving, notify the appropriate police.
  • Because of dangers associated with speeding, keep a good distance between your vehicle and others that exhibit these behaviors.

Injuries in an Accident

Accident injuries can be more serious when the driver who strikes your vehicle is speeding. Some of the more serious types of injuries include burn injuries, which can involve a long period of hospitalization and rehabilitation, according to WebMD.  Broken bones and head and brain injuries also occur.

How a Personal Injury Lawyer Helps

A personal injury lawyer with experience in these types of accidents can help you recover compensation to pay the bills for your injuries. These can include medical bills, from physician bills and hospitalization to needed care at home and out-of-pocket expenses. You can also recover the money from lost income at work and for pain and suffering.
