Fatality Accident Reported in South Sacramento Involving Tractor-Trailer

State Route 12 Accident Claims Life in Collision With Tandem Big Rig

A fatality accident involving an agriculture tractor-trailer occurred in South Sacramento on September 4. The collision occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. along State Route 12 at Jackson Slough Road near Isleton between a Toyota and big rig hauling double trailers. Major damage occurred to the Toyota, which ended up 50 feet off the roadway, according to the traffic report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP)

One Person Perishes Due to Collision

The tractor-trailer sustained damage to its front end, but the cab and trailers remained upright. The county coroner was called to the collision to declare one person involved in the crash as deceased at the scene. A heavy-duty tow truck arrived to remove the tractor-trailer.

Fatality Accident Being Investigated to Determine Cause

An investigation into the cause of the fatality accident is ongoing to determine how it occurred and to assign fault. The roadway was shut down to traffic while the investigation continued and the accident site cleared.

The Loss of a Loved One

Losing a loved one in a fatality accident is difficult at any time but so much worse when it never had to happen. When a negligent driver or other party causes the death of someone you love, the family is consumed by grief, confusion, anger and other emotions. Probably the last thing on their minds is filing a wrongful death claim against the at-fault party.

When the family member who died helped support the family financially, they can have a difficult time afterward because of the funeral expenses, loss of income and all the many ways the decedent contributed. In addition, by filing a wrongful death claim, the family can obtain a measure of justice and peace by holding the negligent party responsible.

Recoverable Damages Following a Wrongful Death

Receiving damages following the loss of a loved one due to wrongful death can help the family move forward without the financial stress. Over the years, my law office has helped many families obtain the compensation that they deserve. Some of the areas in which damages can be recovered include:

  • The cost of the funeral and burial is recoverable, which often runs thousands of dollars.
  • The loss of future financial support by the decedent can be recovered for the family. This not only includes the wages the loved one would have earned but their pension benefits, bonuses and other perks of their job.
  • The family members can recover the loss of inheritance, which is the amount the decedent would have added to their estate and bequeathed to their beneficiaries.
  • The surviving spouse can claim damages because of the loss of moral support, affection and consortium provided by the decedent.
  • Children in the family, including those who were adopted or received at least 50 percent of their support from the decedent, can place a claim for the loss of training, care and parental guidance provided by the lost loved one.
  • Household services that were lost by the death of the decedent are recoverable. They include areas such as taking care of the children, cooking, cleaning, lawn care, paying the family’s bills and more.
