Suspected Head-On Collision on Cosumnes River Boulevard

A fatal vehicle accident in South Sacramento on May 14 claimed one life in what appeared to be a head-on collision. The accident happened shortly before 10:00 in the morning along Cosumnes River Boulevard, which is between Delta Shores Circle and Franklin Boulevard, according to officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Officers and first responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the scene to find major front-end damage in both vehicles. One individual involved in the accident was extricated by first responders while another was pronounced deceased on site. Officials have identified the decedent as 31-year-old Ulises Benjamin Martinez Tello of Sacramento.

Cosumnes River Boulevard was closed down between Delta Shores Circle and Franklin Boulevard until around 3:00 p.m. while an investigation was conducted into the fatal vehicle accident. No information has been released on how many people were injured or the nature of those injuries.

Filing a Wrongful Death Claim

When a family member has died because of the negligence of another person or entity, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim. Family members who may place a claim include the spouse or putative spouse, children, grandparents who live in the home and were supported by the decedent, adopted and stepchildren if they were also supported. An experienced Sacramento wrongful death attorney can help them obtain fair compensation for their loss.

Investigating a Wrongful Death Following a Fatal Vehicle Accident

My law office has vast experience and resources in successfully handling wrongful death cases. Our investigators go out immediately to the accident site to collect the evidence needed to support your claim, including:

  • Talking to the witnesses to take their statements on how the fatal accident occurred
  • Reviewing the report by police to ensure its accuracy
  • Performing accident reconstruction to determine how the fatal vehicle accident happened
  • Searching for traffic and business surveillance cameras to see if they caught the accident on video
  • Looking for signs of government negligence that might have contributed to the fatal vehicle accident such as missing or damaged traffic control devices, potholes, debris or corners where foliage obscures a motorist’s vision

After all the evidence is gathered, our lawyers use it to construct a strong case in favor of our client.

Helping After a Family Death

The loss of a loved one is a tragic experience, and a grieving person may be flooded with emotion and feel isolated. There are a number of ways that friends, other family members and coworkers can help out in this situation. Some of them include:

  • People who are grieving need support and just being there for them is a positive action.
  • Send flowers, a card or call on the phone.
  • Visit to offer support in person. Grieving people often need to talk about the loved one and the incident that took their life. Being a good listener and offering emotional support is important.
  • Offer practical ways to help such as grocery shopping, babysitting or mowing the lawn.
  • Get them out of the house by taking a walk, going out to eat or to a movie. A change in scenery can be helpful.
  • Offer to accompany them to make funeral and burial arrangements if they are alone in the task.
  • Continue being supportive after the funeral is over. People who are grieving need continued support to be able to cope on their own.

Head-On Collisions

Head-on collisions are devastating accidents, and the vast majority involve fatal injuries. Although there are fewer frontal accidents, critical injuries and deaths are common. This is because the momentum of the cars is a combination of the speed and weight of both vehicles. They are particularly dangerous on highways where the speed limit is higher than on rural roads. However, rural areas do see an abundance of head-on collisions due to the lack of police presence and two-lane highways without a divider.
