Driver Going Wrong Way Causes Fatal Rural Road Accident on County Road 31

A fatal rural road accident occurred west of Davis on January 10 when a vehicle went into the opposing lane. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a collision report at about 10:00 a.m. along County Road 31, west of  C.R. 95. Authorities said a driver in the correct lane died when the two vehicles collided.

CHP Investigation Determining Cause of Fatal Rural Road Accident

The road was closed for several hours as the CHP traffic accident unit held an investigation into the accident. No information was released on whether alcohol or drugs factored into the cause of the collision. The decedent’s name will be released once the family has been notified of the death by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office.

Causes of a Fatal Rural Road Accident

Most of the time, rural accidents are caused by driver negligence. A driver who ends up in the opposing lane occurs because:

  • The driver attempts to pass but does not have a clear view ahead or is passing on a double-yellow line.
  • The driver is distracted by talking on their cell phone, texting, or changing a radio station and doesn’t notice they are out of their lane.
  • The motorist is speeding and misses negotiating a sharp curve.
  • An intoxicated driver cannot stay in their lane.

The Recovery of Compensation in a Wrongful Death Case

An immediate family member may recover damages for the loss of a loved one in a wrongful death claim. Economic and non-economic damages may be assessed due to the loss of life. A wrongful death lawsuit can result in financial losses with a set value, such as funeral costs, lost wages and benefits, and other losses relating to the deceased’s death. An intangible loss may be a loss of guidance and companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, or other non-economic damages.

Advantages of Filing a Wrongful Death Claim

Experiencing the loss of a loved one is invariably emotionally challenging. Unfortunately, it can also lead to financial hardships due to various associated expenses. For instance, the family is responsible for the expenses related to the funeral and burial, which can prove financially burdensome and deplete their resources. Moreover, if the deceased family member contributed to the household income, this loss further compounds the family’s financial strain.

You can get through this challenging time with the assistance of a personal injury lawyer after a fatal rural road accident and hold the person at fault accountable for what they did. Recovering compensation through filing a wrongful death claim can not only help relieve the financial distress but can also help bring the family justice and a sense of closure for their loss.
