Fatal Pittsburg Hit-and-Run Crash

A man lost his life in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Pittsburgh last week. The late night accident is still in the process of being investigated by Pittsburg police officials, and they are still actively looking for witnesses, surveillance video, or anything else that will lead them closer to identifying the driver that fled the scene. As a result of the collision, West Leland road was temporarily closed until the morning. I want to take this brief moment to offer the full extent of my sorrows and prayers for all the loved ones of the victim.

Crash Details

According to authorities, the crash happened just before 1:30 a.m. Officials were dispatched to the site of the pedestrian vs. vehicle incident, which took place on the intersection of Bailey Road and West Leland Road. Police officers were informed that Station 87 firefighters were heading back to their station, located on West Leland Road when they noticed the incident. When police officers arrived, the injured pedestrian was discovered near the westbound lanes of West Leland. Firefighters were already in the process of performing various lifesaving efforts. Unfortunately, their efforts were not enough to save the pedestrian, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The pedestrian’s identity has been withheld from the public due to the pending notification of relatives.

The driver that was involved in the pedestrian accident left the scene before the arrival of emergency responders, said police captain Steve Albanese. They currently do not have any information related to the make or model of the car. The Fatal Accident Response Team, a branch of the Pittsburg Police Department, has responded to this collision and has taken over the ongoing investigation. Authorities do have reason to suspect that the vehicle had been driving in the westbound direction of West Leland at the time of the accident.

In the aftermath of the accident, the section of West Leland Road stretching from Bailey Road and Chestnut Drive was shut down until approximately 10:00 a.m. that morning. Officers are reviewing the video surveillance operating systems from Pittsburg city to see if the accident was caught on tape. Those that may have any information regarding the hit-and-run are asked to call the tip line of Pittsburg’s Police Department at 925-252-4040.
