Additional Details of the Fatal Sacramento Pedestrian Accident

The CHP saw a silver Volkswagen parked on the right shoulder of the road. The vehicle pulled away when police arrived. Shortly afterward, officers encountered a Volkswagen that matched the description, with a shattered windshield with traces of blood on it. The vehicle also showed front bumper, headlight and hood damage. The driver, identified as a 44-year-old resident of Sacramento, said he was frightened when police arrived and left.

The driver did not appear to be impaired. He was placed under arrest for possible felony hit and run and taken to the Sacramento County Jail.

Losing a Loved One in a Fatal Pedestrian Accident

Losing a loved one is never easy, but having them taken in an unexpected accident compounds the grief and emotions a family suffers. No one expects the untimely demise of someone they love, and when it happens, they need the support of close friends and other family members. Some ways to help include:

  • Let the family know you care. So often, family members feel isolated. By calling or stopping at their home, you are letting them know they are not alone and can lean on you.
  • Bring food or do chores the family is unable to do. This includes shopping, picking up medical prescriptions, walking the dog or taking the children to school. Ask for a grocery list, and let them know that you will be able to go to the funeral home with them to make arrangements when the time comes.
  • Sit down and talk to the grieving family members. Some will have questions, and others will want to relive the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian accident. However, all just need to have a friendly person to talk to. Don’t feel the need to offer advice, unless it is requested. Just listen.
  • Keep in touch after the funeral services are completed. Being alone after a loved one’s death is difficult. Ask the person if they would like to go out to lunch or dinner. If they aren’t ready yet, ask if you can stop by their home for a visit. Some people might put you off due to their grief. Be persistent.

Helping a Family After a Loved One Dies

Our law firm has worked with many families who seek justice for their loved ones. This is a natural reaction and one that should not be ignored. In addition, many families suffer not just emotional loss but financial harm as well. For some, paying the mortgage or keeping food on the table is difficult if the deceased was the main provider. Filing a wrongful death lawsuit can help.

What Is a Wrongful Death Lawsuit?

A wrongful death claim is a civil action filed against a person or an entity who was responsible for the death of another individual. It is filed by family members on behalf of the decedent. Some damages the family members can receive include loss of support and consortium as well as the cost of funeral and burial expenses.

Investigation Into a Wrongful Death

Our firm sends our investigative team to the scene of the accident. They talk to witnesses and secure video footage to show the accident as it happened. The investigators also comb the area for other evidence, especially in a hit and run case, and review police reports for mistakes. When the information is gathered, our lawyers proceed to construct a strong case for our clients. If the fleeing driver is not found, we help the injured party use uninsured/underinsured insurance to collect damages.
