Fatal Napa County Rollover Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Napa Wrongful Death Lawyer. A death occurred as a result of an auto accident off of Highway 121 in Napa County on Sunday, June 11, 2017.

My heart and prayers go out to the family and friends affected by this tragedy.

What Happened in the fatal Napa County rollover accident?

The victim John Scott Eggenberger, an elderly man of 82 years from Shingle Springs in El Dorado County, was traveling northbound on Highway 121 between Napa and Sonoma. His vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Solara was found 20 feet below the road where it had struck a tree. The car was traveling at an unknown speed when it crossed over the center line, passed through the southbound lanes, and rolled off the edge of the road.

How did it Happen?

The cause of the fatal Napa County rollover accident is unknown at this time. The California Highway Patrol has been assigned the task of investigating the incident. They do not expect alcohol to be the cause of the crash. That stretch of road is mentioned in a study done by UC Davis as a popular spot for wildlife crossings and collisions. About 6000 accidents involving wildlife took place in the State of California from February 2015 to February 2016. Wildlife ecologists are lobbying for fencing along busy roads and wildlife crossing areas. These crossing areas could be something as simple as rope bridges above the highway for squirrels, or underpasses that provide a safe way for deer and larger animals to cross. This will greatly reduce the injuries to both motorists and the local animal population. Fencing could cost up to $100,000 per mile but would eventually save the state money from the reduced number of car accidents.

Being Aware of Auto Defects

Eggenberger’s car, the Toyota Solara, is known for its reliability and is not known for being involved in accidents caused by a vehicular malfunction. Paying attention to automaker recalls and reporting defects, big or small, can help protect you and others on the road. If you suspect a defect in your vehicle that could be the fault of the manufacturer or a repair service, please contact my office. My injury lawyers and I have extensive experience related to cases involving auto defects and will give you the best chance of having a successful claim. Proper maintenance is also key to keeping a vehicle operating safely. Tire wear, pressure, and design can all affect the handling of a vehicle. Checking your tires frequently and also rotating them as often as the manufacturer recommends can be a lifesaving habit.
