Fatal Motorcycle Collision in Citrus Heights

A motorcycle collision claimed the life of one man after his 2009 Kawasaki crashed into a Ford Fusion along Interstate 80 in Citrus Heights on October 22. The accident happened at around 4:30 in the morning close to the Antelope Road scales in the number three and four lanes of the interstate. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), after the rider, for unknown reasons, crashed into the Ford, he was thrown from his motorcycle and was struck by a semi-truck that was unable to avoid the collision or stop in time to avoid hitting him. The rider died at the accident scene.

Accident Details

It was confirmed that the rider involved in the motorcycle collision was a Los Angeles resident, age 38. However, his identity has not been released yet, pending notification of his next of kin. No one else was injured in the accident. At this time, it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident. The CHP is charged with investigating the cause of the fatal motorcycle collision.

Traffic Shut Down for More Than Two Hours

Traffic was severely backed up due to the motorcycle collision, and the onramps along westbound I-80 closed down. The lanes were reopened at around 6:45 a.m.

Grief in Sudden Death

While the grief we feel when we lose a loved one is different for everyone, an unexpected death brings other emotions along with it. Saying goodbye is lost forever, and telling the person how much you love them is too. Suddenly, a phone call lets you know that your world will never be the same. For some, this experience gives way to depression and a belief that other bad things might happen. Although it does not seem so initially, it is possible to deal with these emotions. Some ways to do this are listed below:

  • Try not to shut down. Although painful, facing what happened is important and helps us move forward in a stressful time. For many people, there are children and parents to think about. Keep in mind how difficult it is for them and do your best.
  • Take care of yourself. After a death, there are many things that need to be done, such as arranging the funeral and all the other details that come with it. Not eating and sleeping properly will sap your strength and make it harder. Never be afraid of asking others for help.
  • Try to arrange new schedules for you and your children. For example, if a spouse did most of the cooking or took the children to school and to events, see if a family member or friend might help. After the initial period, you’ll have time to rearrange things.
  • Talk to family and friends. Don’t keep your grief all bottled in. Besides helping yourself, you’ll open up avenues of communication for others too.
  • Discuss the accident with close friends or family. Often, grieving individuals think that others will want to avoid this. They want to help you and will be there for you.
  • Talk to clergy if you want.
  • If you feel depressed after a while or if the depression is severe, see a physician.
  • Finally, give yourself time to heal. Some days may be better than others. No two people grieve the same way.
