Motorcyclist Dies After Colliding With Vehicle on El Camino Avenue

A fatal motorcycle accident happened in South Natomas on July 5 when the rider was involved in an accident with a motor vehicle. The collision occurred on westbound El Camino Avenue shortly after 3:00 in the afternoon. The site of the fatal accident happened between Reiner Way and Thelma Avenue, according to the incident report by the Sacramento Police Department.

Motorcyclist Succumbs to Injuries at a Local Hospital

Sacramento Fire Department first responders arrived at the accident scene and transported the motorcyclist to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he died there due to his serious injuries. El Camino Avenue was closed down as an investigation into the cause of the accident was conducted by police. It reopened around 7:50 that evening. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has recently identified the decedent as 25-year-old Marco Harris of Sacramento. A GoFundMe page has been created for Mr. Harris to help his family cover funeral arrangements.

Losing a Family Member in a Traffic Accident

Few things are worse than losing a loved one, but the loss of a family member because of an accident increases their grief. Goodbyes never get said, things remain unspoken, and the family members are confused, in denial and angry that this happened to someone they care about. By filing a wrongful death lawsuit, the family can recover compensation to help them avoid financial distress, and at the same time, they can hold the at-fault party responsible.

Recovery of Damages Following a Wrongful Death

When a negligent driver causes a fatal motorcycle accident, the family may claim the following by filing a claim for wrongful death:

  • The family can recover the wages the decedent would have earned until their time of retirement, including bonuses.
  • Loss of inheritance can be recovered.
  • The cost of the funeral and burial is recoverable.
  • Loss of household services, which means the tasks normally performed by the decedent, can be recovered. This includes areas such as childcare, gardening chores, and other tasks.
  • The spouse can recover the loss of consortium, affection, and support lost by the death of their loved one.
  • Children in the family can recover damages for the loss of guidance and nurturing by the deceased parent.

Investigating the Fatal Motorcycle Accident

The collection of evidence is necessary to support a wrongful death claim, and our investigators are highly experienced at doing just that. Among the areas in which an investigation is conducted are:

  • The police report is examined for mistakes, and witnesses are interviewed for corroborating statements on how the fatal motorcycle accident occurred.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed, which shows how the accident occurred and often points toward which motorist was at fault.
  • Our engineers examine the motorcycle to determine if a defective part caused the fatal motorcycle accident. A product liability claim may be placed against the manufacturer and others in the production line if this is found to be true.
  • The roadway is checked for signs of improper maintenance such as potholes, debris and upheavals as well as missing signage and poor lighting. A claim may be placed against the government entity in charge of maintenance if negligence is found.
  • Area business and traffic cameras are examined to look for footage of the fatal motorcycle accident as it happened. If it is available, those tapes can be subpoenaed.

Our team of injury attorneys uses this evidence to construct a strong case that supports the family’s claim.
