Investigation Techniques in Sacramento Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Cases
Law enforcement utilizes a range of investigative strategies to locate hit-and-run drivers in Sacramento fatal pedestrian accidents. These include collecting evidence at the scene, such as photographs and witness statements, as well as reviewing surveillance footage. Forensic experts may also examine collision-related vehicle data to confirm the make and model involved. In addition, detectives can access criminal databases and vehicle registration records to identify potential suspects.
Pursuing a Wrongful Death Lawsuit After Identifying the At-Fault Driver
Once the responsible driver is identified, surviving family members have the option to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit. Such claims are designed to prove that the negligent actions of the driver directly caused the pedestrian’s death, leading to financial and emotional hardships for the family. California law requires these claims to be filed within two years of the victim’s passing, and eligibility to file is limited to close family members or an appointed personal representative.

Compensation Options for Families When the Driver Remains Unknown
If the at-fault driver cannot be identified or is found to be uninsured, families may still seek financial compensation through their own auto insurance policies under uninsured motorist coverage.
