Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Modesto

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury lawyer. Investigators from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) are searching for a motorist that caused a fatal collision along Highway 99 in Modesto during the early morning hours of Saturday, January 21, 2017. This motorist fled from the scene of the crash and also left their vehicle behind.

What Happened?

A motorist was behind the wheel of their white Honda driving along the northbound lanes of Highway 99 in the vicinity of Ninth Street at approximately 4:20 am. For unknown reasons, this driver sideswiped a motor home that was traveling in the slow lane. This caused both of the vehicles to veer off the roadway and onto the shoulder of the highway. The impact from the automobile collision caused the motor home to land on its left side. The driver of the Honda ran from their vehicle, leaving behind the injured occupants of the motor home.

Were They Injured?

The motor home was carrying three occupants, all of which were residents of Washington. The motorist of the motor home was in his sixties, the front seat passenger was in his fifties and the passenger that was at the rear of the motor home was in her eighties. The driver and the front seat passenger were transported to the hospital to be treated for major injuries. Sadly, the elderly woman that was sitting in the rear of the motor home passed away at the scene. She was later identified by authorities as 83-year-old Hubertina Koch, of Vancouver, Washington.

Our condolences are with the loved ones of these three victims that suffered injuries in this devastating hit-and-run accident.

Authorities Searching for Hit-and-Run Driver

The driver of the white Honda fled from the scene of this fatal accident. The driver left behind their vehicle, which was registered in the city of Ceres. A Ceres police officer and police dog responded to the scene to locate the hit-and-run suspect. Sadly, they were unable to locate their whereabouts. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) urges anyone with information about the suspect to contact their dispatch number at (209) 356-2900.
