Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 44 Near Redding

A fatal head-on crash on Highway 44 near Redding claimed the life of a Shingletown man on Saturday evening, May 9, 2026, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Crash Happened Near Inwood Road

The collision occurred around 6 p.m. on Highway 44 west of Inwood Road. CHP investigators said a 2018 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound when it crossed over the solid double yellow lines and entered the westbound lane.

Authorities said the driver attempted to steer the Honda back into the eastbound lane but collided head-on with a 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup traveling in the opposite direction.

One Person Killed, Four Injured

The Shingletown man, 63-year-old, driving the Honda suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP reported that the four women riding inside the Toyota Tacoma sustained minor to moderate injuries in the collision. Emergency responders provided aid at the scene and transported the injured victims for additional medical treatment. The collision remains under investigation.
