A fatal Fremont pedestrian accident claimed the life of a 76-year-old resident early on August 12 after they were struck while crossing Paseo Padre Parkway. The incident occurred around 5:08 a.m. just south of Capitol Avenue. According to the Fremont Police Department, the pedestrian was pushing a shopping cart filled with personal belongings and was crossing the roadway midblock when the collision happened.
Two Vehicles Believed to Have Been Involved in Fatal Fremont Pedestrian Accident
Investigators said the northbound vehicle struck both the pedestrian and the cart near the median divider. A second, unidentified vehicle is also believed to have hit the pedestrian after the initial impact. Medics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

Police said the first driver initially left but returned a short time later and is cooperating with the investigation. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office is withholding the pedestrian’s name pending family notification.
