Deadly Fairfield Train Collision

A local woman passed away during a fatal Fairfield train collision that occurred on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. The decedent has since been identified by authorities of the Solano County Sheriff’s Office as Esperanza Rodriguez, a 77-year-old woman and resident of Fairfield. No other individuals were reported to have suffered injuries as a result of the crash. Additionally, this accident is under an active investigation.

Accident Details

The accident happened in the morning at around 6:15 a.m. on Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor line off of East Tabor Avenue near Railroad Avenue. Rodriguez reportedly walked away from her home and was struck at a location around 400 feet from a railroad crossing located on East Tabor. Tragically, she reportedly lost her life during the initial impact and was pronounced deceased on-scene by responding officials.

Amtrak spokesperson Olivia Irvin stated that there were 37 people, including passengers and crew members on-board the train at the time of the incident. The passengers were transferred to another Capitol Corridor train.

Investigation

As the investigation into the accident continues, officials haven’t released a full report regarding involved factors. While it is suspected that Rodriguez may have been suffering from dementia, accidents like this one often involve more than one important factor and are often caused by things like inadequate railroad safety and other non-pedestrian factors.

Investigating an accident in which the injured party is unable to offer their testimony can leave police in a difficult situation. Often, because they are unable to interview the decedent, police fail to uncover important evidence that could be critical in a wrongful death case. This is one of the reasons that it is important to have help from an attorney following a deadly accident. A skilled lawyer will investigate the crash privately while prioritizing your family’s right to claiming fair compensation.

Train Accidents

Trains are massive vehicles that travel at very high speeds. While being on rails means that they don’t often crash, trains still present a very serious risk to both drivers and pedestrians and are involved in numerous fatal accidents across the state every year.

This accident was the first of two fatal train vs. pedestrian crashes to take place in Solano over a 24-hour-period. The other accident happened the following night in a rural area of Suisun and also fatally injured a female pedestrian.

Calling an Attorney

After a deadly crash, families can be left feeling shocked and overwhelmed. During this time, it can be hard to keep up with your daily life and many people need to take a significant amount of time away from their responsibilities in order to begin processing their grief.

It’s important to take care of yourself and your loved ones during a time like this, and spending time coping with grief is vital. However, at-fault parties often aren’t dealing with the same emotions and act quickly in order to defend themselves from liability. Because of this, contacting a trustworthy lawyer early on can be crucial to your case. Furthermore, knowing that the case is in the hands of a professional can help you to spend your time and energy, focusing on being with your loved ones.
