Fatal Accident on SR-99 Near Faith Home Road in Stanislaus County

Fatal Crash on SR-99 in Stanislaus County

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reported that a fatal crash on SR-99 between Turlock and Modesto in Stanislaus County had traffic slow on the morning of Friday, August 13, 2021. The tractor-trailer accident occurred shortly before 3:20 a.m. on northbound State Route 99 and the Mitchell Road offramp near Keyes.

Details on the Fatal Truck Crash Reported on SR-99 in Stanislaus County

Information on what caused the fatal truck accident was not immediately clear. However, officials reported that 54-year-old Muni Kumar of Sacramento was driving a big rig north of Faith Home Road. For unknown reasons, the truck veered to the right and left the roadway, according to CHP traffic officers.

The tractor-trailer allegedly sideswiped a Toyota Camry and another semi-truck that were both parked along the shoulder of SR-99. The big rig continued before striking a dirt embankment, overturning, and coming to a rest on its left side. Sadly, Mr. Kumar succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officials reported that no one was inside the parked tractor-trailer at the time of the wreck. The three parties in the Toyota, all Winton residents, escaped serious injury in the traffic collision.

The tractor of the big rig was removed from the scene by a tow truck a few hours after the incident. However, the trailer was not immediately removed as an environmental team was sent to the scene to ensure that the batteries and forklift it was transporting were not damaged in the crash. Drivers were advised to avoid the area.

How an Attorney Can Help After a Truck Accident

Each commercial truck accident case has its own unique facts and circumstances. Since big rigs may cause severe harm due to their overwhelming size and weight, truck drivers and trucking companies are required to carry higher bodily injury liability limits than passenger vehicle drivers. However, it may be challenging to seek fair compensation for damages incurred, particularly if multiple insurance companies and entities are involved. This is especially true in cases involving serious injury or wrongful death.

It is essential to retain legal counsel that has years of experience litigating personal injury and wrongful death cases involving tractor-trailers and knowledge of the state and federal laws that apply to such cases. An experienced injury lawyer will know the best way to proceed in identifying all at-fault parties, including truckers, tractor-trailer part manufacturers, cargo shippers, trucking companies, and more. A lawyer will also review records related to injuries or the death of a loved one to determine the true extent of resulting losses.

Working with an attorney means that your case will be in good hands while you and your family focus on recovering. If the insurance company fails to make a fair settlement offer, you can depend on your lawyer to use their experience, skills, and resources to build the strongest case possible for a favorable outcome on your behalf.
