Fatal Accident Site Discovered North of Oroville

On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) discovered the site of a fatal vehicle accident to the north of Oroville. Police stated that they discovered a single vehicle with only one occupant and that the occupant had sustained fatal injuries. The identity of the decedent is still being withheld by Butte County officials and the incident remains under CHP investigation.

Incident Information

CHP reported that the collision was reported by a caller at around 3:00 a.m. who noticed the wrecked vehicle from the side of the highway. The vehicle was discovered near the junction of Highway 149 and Highway 70. Police stated that, when they arrived at the scene, the vehicle’s engine was cold to the touch. At this time, officers are attempting to determine what time the accident took place.

Investigation

As CHP conducts a full investigation into this crash, police have reported very little information about what events could have led up to the accident. Even single-vehicle accidents like this one can be complicated events and are often caused by more than one factor. Additionally, many common accident factors are not under the control of drivers. These non-driver accident factors can be things like driving vehicles with malfunctioning parts or using roadways with dangerously defective pavement.

Private Investigations are Critical

On top of being complicated incidents, fatal auto accidents can present a serious challenge to investigating officers. If officers can’t interview any involved parties, they may never fully understand what factors caused the crash. If critical evidence is left uncovered, family members and dependents of the decedent may not be able to obtain the compensation that they deserve for their losses.

In order to ensure that the accident receives a full-scale investigation, it’s best to reach out to an Oroville wrongful death lawyer who has ample experience conducting private accident investigations.
