Woman Killed in Fatal Collision with Semi-Truck on State Route 99W in Red Bluff

A woman was killed Thursday night, June 4, 2026, following a head-on, fatal crash with a semi-truck on State Route 99W in Red Bluff, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Crash Occurred Near Riverside Avenue

CHP officials said the collision happened around 5:45 p.m. on SR-99W north of Riverside Avenue. Investigators reported that the woman was driving a 2003 Toyota SUV southbound when she turned into oncoming traffic and entered the path of a northbound 2026 Freightliner semi-truck.

The two vehicles collided head-on.

Driver Pronounced Dead at the Scene

Authorities confirmed that the woman sustained fatal injuries as a result of the impact. The semi-truck driver was not injured in the crash.

Roadway Closed for Several Hours

State Route 99 West was closed north of Riverside Avenue for approximately three hours while CHP officers investigated the crash and crews cleared the scene. The roadway has since reopened.

No Impairment Suspected

CHP stated that drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision at this time. The cause of the driver entering oncoming traffic remains under investigation.

Head-On Collisions Often Result in Severe Outcomes

Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway collisions due to the combined force of both vehicles at impact. Even at moderate speeds, these incidents frequently result in serious injury or death.
