Accident on Shasta Street May Have Been Caused When Driver Lost Control

A fatal traffic accident took place in Vallejo on January 1 when a vehicle ran into a tree. The accident was reported by officials with the Vallejo Fire Department, who were called to the scene of a vehicle on fire that might endanger a nearby structure around 9:22 p.m. on Shasta Street. Multiple people called the fire department to say there might be people still in the vehicle. The firefighters arrived at the scene in under one minute to discover the vehicle had become fully engulfed, and people were still inside. Medical personnel with the fire department pronounced both of them deceased at the accident scene.

Authorities Seek Additional Information

Information on the identities of those who died in the crash have not been released pending the notification of the families by the Solano County Coroner’s Office. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Division of the Vallejo Police Department, and those with information are asked to call (707) 648-4011 and speak to Officer Kenneth Trimble.

Vallejo Fire Department Responded Quickly to Scene of the Fatal Accident

According to a firefighter and spokesman with the Vallejo Fire Department, Aaron Klauber, they arrived at the scene with the battalion chief, a truck and four engines. It was determined quickly that no one had survived the crash and that the damage to the vehicle pointed toward a motor vehicle accident.

Driver Spotted by Authorities Before the Fatal Traffic Accident Occurred

Before the fatal traffic accident occurred, one of the officers said the driver of an older Infiniti G35 had been seen spinning donuts and driving recklessly near the intersection of Shasta and Springs Road. When the driver spotted the police officer, he/she turned their headlights off and sped away on Shasta at high speed. Due to the concern for public safety, the officer didn’t chase the vehicle and discontinued any attempt at pursuit.

Further Details of the Fatal Traffic Accident

Details early in the investigation into the fatal traffic accident stated the driver was speeding, lost control and crashed into several parked vehicles that were unoccupied and then into a tree. At this point, the vehicle caught fire and was quickly engulfed. Those who died in the collision were identified as an adult male and a juvenile.

The Loss of a Loved One

When a family loses a loved one, they are often consumed by grief. However, it can be much worse when that loved one’s life was taken away due to negligence by another. When this happens, the grieving family may be able to place a wrongful death claim. Although this won’t ease their sorrow, it can help family members avoid financial distress and offer them the knowledge that the person or entity who caused the death is being held responsible. In a wrongful death claim, the following may be recovered:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Wages the deceased would have earned until retirement age, including pension and insurance benefits, bonuses, tips and other monies
  • Loss of inheritance in some instances
  • Recovery of damages for the loss of support, affection and consortium
  • Damages for the loss of guidance and nurturing for the children
  • Recovery of the value of household chores such as lawn and vehicle care, childcare and others
