Fairfield Man Killed in Redding Area Crash
On Wednesday, August 4, 2021, one person tragically lost his life after being involved in a Redding area collision. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office reported that the decedent was a resident of Fairfield, but are waiting to release his identity at this time. In addition to the decedent, one other individual suffered serious injuries as a result of this terrible accident. The cause of the collision remains under a California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigation at this time.
Crash Information
The accident took place at about 1:30 a.m. on Highway 44 to the east of Chateau Drive just outside of Redding. CHP states that a 1994 Chevrolet S10 was driving westbound on 44 when, for reasons that are not currently understood, the vehicle drifted off-road and onto the southern shoulder. Eventually, the Chevrolet drove off the shoulder and entered a nearby ditch, continuing forward until it struck a tree.
Response
When officers arrived on-site, they discovered that both the driver and passenger of the Chevrolet were seriously hurt. Sadly, the passenger was declared deceased by officials on-site. The passenger was reportedly hospitalized for treatment of major injuries. No other vehicles or individuals were reported to have been involved in the crash.
Investigation
As CHP officers investigate this incident, a full report regarding suspected causes of the accident has not been made available. Even accidents that only involve a single vehicle can be caused by a number of factors, including factors that are not under the control of the driver.
