Emergency Extrication after Downtown Eureka Crash

An emergency extrication was required after a downtown Eureka crash that occurred on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. According to reports from the Humboldt Bay Fire Department (HBFD), the driver of the truck suffered injuries as a result of the accident. Eureka Police Department (EPD) indicated that no other vehicles were involved in the crash and that no other individuals suffered injuries.

Accident Details

The accident happened at approximately 11:50 a.m. at the intersection of Fifth Street and Broadway. Details about the events that took place before the accident have not been reported. However, police indicated that an 18-wheel big-rig tipped over on a wet roadway, pinning the driver’s door against the ground. The driver was reportedly left trapped inside of his vehicle as a result of the accident.

EMS and fire personnel responding to the accident were eventually able to extricate the injured driver from big-rig’s cab. The driver was then provided with medical care on-scene by staff from City Ambulance.

Responders deployed several hydrocarbon booms in order to mitigate the risk of any hazardous materials spilling from the vehicle or its trailer. However, no leaks occurred and the vehicle was not carrying any explosives or toxic chemicals.

Investigation of Dowtown Eureka Crash

As police look into this accident, Amy Conlin, a spokesperson for HBFD, told reporters that sudden rainy weather may have been a factor. Conlin stated that Eureka hasn’t seen rain in a long time, causing the road to be extra slick in areas where oil has accumulated. Conlin noted that this doesn’t necessarily mean that the crash was caused by rain, but that drivers should take it as a reason to be extra careful driving in these conditions.

A full investigation into causal factors of the crash is currently being conducted by EPD. Often, semi-truck accidents have more than one causal factor. Furthermore, they can be partially or even fully caused by non-driver factors such as issues with truck parts or poor roadway maintenance.

Trucking Accidents

After being injured during an accident involving a large commercial truck, it’s very important to call a lawyer right away. Trucking companies are often liable in these cases, and they are usually well-prepared to defend themselves from financial responsibility. By contacting a Eureka trucking accident lawyer early on, you give your attorney a head-start on investigating your accident and putting together a strong case to defend your right to claiming compensation for the damages you’ve sustained.
