Eureka Man Dies in Highway Accident

On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, a Eureka man tragically passed away after being involved in a local highway accident. The man has since been identified by Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department authorities as 42-year-old William Clymer. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports state that the crash involved two cars and happened in the early evening. Two other people involved in the accident reportedly did not suffer any injuries.

Crash Information

CHP stated that Clymer was driving a GMC Jimmy on Highway 101 at around 6:00 p.m. He had been traveling southbound through the safety corridor when he attempted to make a left-hand turn onto the Indianola Cutoff. As Clymer made the turn from the southbound lane, his GMC was struck on the passenger side by a northbound vehicle. The impact reportedly caused the GMC to overturn.

Emergency personnel arrived at the accident site and found Clymer with major trauma. Medical responders reportedly attempted to perform life-saving medical procedures. However, Clymer was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigation

CHP is currently conducting a full investigation into the crash and has asked that anybody with information that could help police understand the accident call (707) 822-5981. Investigators have stated that all of the parties involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts and that they do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in causing the crash.

When a person passes away in a crash, so does their testimony about what happened. Investigating fatal accidents can be difficult for police because they are missing part of the story. In many cases, this means that key factors aren’t noticed. In order to make sure that the crash is investigated with the rights of your family as a priority, it’s critical to work with an attorney who can conduct their own investigation into the accident.

Rollover Accidents

Rollover accidents are particularly dangerous. According to the NHTSA, rollovers account for five times more fatal crashes than accidents in general, meaning that these collisions are much more likely to involve a serious injury. This is largely because vehicle roofs often can’t hold up to the impact of a crash.

When roofs are poorly constructed or made of weak materials, they are liable to crush, leaving drivers and passengers with injuries that otherwise could have been avoided. When this happens, the manufacturer of the vehicle can often be held responsible for the damages caused during the crash.
