Eureka Car Crash Injures One

One person was sent to the hospital following a Eureka car crash that took place on Monday, May 18, 2020. According to officials from the Humboldt Bay Fire Department (HBFD), the crash involved two cars and happened in the afternoon in central Eureka. The Eureka Police Department has indicated that the cause of this accident remains under investigation.

Crash Details

The crash happened at about 3:11 at the intersection of E and Henderson Streets not far from Carson Park. Specific details about the events that led up to the crash have not been reported. However, a light-gray sedan of unreported make and model and a newer-model black Honda were involved in a collision. The initial collision sent the Honda off-road and into the concrete corner of a nearby Ace Hardware.

Pictures taken at the accident scene show serious damage to the front ends of both vehicles as well as the front passenger’s side of the Honda.

Response

Responders arriving at the scene of the accident discovered that both vehicle drivers had suffered injuries. One of the drivers reportedly denied treatment while the other was placed on an ambulance and transported to a nearby hospital for care. Further details about the drivers’ injuries have not been made available.

Investigation of Eureka Car Crash

While EPD officers are investigating the crash, officials have reported that they do not suspect driver intoxication played a role in causing the incident. However, police have indicated that they suspect a red light violation was involved.

In many cases, two-vehicle accidents have more than one cause and can include factors outside of drivers’ control. Common non-driver accident causes include defective car parts and dangerously designed roads.
