Elk Grove Holiday Shopping Safety Tips
Personal safety, especially during the holiday season, is of paramount importance. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Sacramento Police began investigating a shameless holiday robber who knocked a grocery shopper to the ground, causing personal injury to her while stealing her packages. This brazen thief targeted the Raley’s parking lot on Freeport Boulevard in Sacramento at 5:30 pm on Friday evening. Police say the victim was standing at her trunk when the man pulled up in a car and stole her shopping bags right out of her trunk. The victim was knocked to the ground in the scuffle while trying to retrieve her items. The man drove off in a green Honda Element with a female passenger in tow.
In the above incident, we saw how an unsuspecting holiday shopper became the victim of a violent crime. We can only imagine how frightening this robbery must have been for her.
Listed below are tips we suggest to improve your personal safety this holiday season. Remember, crooks are generally unemployed and will be looking to you for assistance with their holiday shopping.

Elk Grove Holiday Shopping Safety Tips

  • Park in areas that are highly visible and well-lit.
  • Shop with a friend or family member.
  • Ideally, park your car in shopping centers that have video surveillance cameras.
  • Choose parking lots that have mobile security patrols.
  • Carry your wallet in an interior pocket of your jacket rather than your back pocket.
  • Women may opt to leave purses at home and carry cash and credit cards in interior pockets also.
  • If using a purse, keep it strapped to your body and be sure it’s closed with no phone/wallet visible.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings. Don’t be an easy target for crooks.
  • Have your keys out and ready before leaving the shopping center. Walk to your car with purpose.
  • Always look around you and inside of your car before getting in. Especially at night.
  • Be cautious of strangers asking questions or needing your assistance. It could be a scam.

The above tips may sound redundant to some. Extreme to others. The point is, seasonal thieves are getting braver each year. Many times it takes a tragic incident like the one above, or a video like the one that follows, to convince us just how vulnerable and oblivious we are to our surroundings.
