Elk Grove Fatal Motorcycle Accident
I’m Ed Smith, an Elk Grove motorcycle accident attorney. On Saturday, February 25, 2017, at approximately 11:25 a.m. a series of accidents involving three motorcycles and three automobiles occurred on Highway 99 and Eschinger Road.
What Happened?
According to reports by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 37-year-old man from Sheridan was traveling on his motorcycle southbound on Highway 99 when the flow of traffic suddenly slowed due to highway congestion. The motorcyclist crashed into the back of a pick-up truck he was traveling behind. According to officers, this caused a chain reaction accident, which caused two other motorcycles to crash into two other vehicles that were in the area at the time.
Were There Injuries?
The severity of the initial collision caused the motorcyclist to suffer traumatic injuries. Witnesses to the collision stepped in to render first aid until first responders arrived at the scene. Sadly, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision. The other motorcyclists involved in the following accidents were both transported by ambulance to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of the traumatic injuries they both suffered in the accidents.
Road Closures and Investigation
Highway 99 was backed up for several hours between Elk Grove and Galt. The immediate area of where the accidents took place was closed to through traffic while investigators collected evidence and took witness statements. These collisions are being investigated by the CHP, it is not clear at this time if speed, distracted driving or driving under the influence could be contributing factors in these accidents.
