Elk Grove Considers Light Rail

Elk Grove Considers Light Rail

On August 26, 2015, the Elk Grove City Council approved an agreement to collaborate with Sacramento Regional Transit (RT) to entertain a vision of eventually bringing light rail into the City of Elk Grove.

Major points of this agreement involve two governmental agencies implementing open lines of communication, sharing of their resources and bettering mobility and transit options for the Sacramento area region.

One of the ways they would do that would be to bring light rail to Elk Grove.

Do Elk Grove Citizens want Light Rail in their city?

It is hard to say at this point.  Some citizens of Elk Grove have used light rail and some have not.  As with anything, there may differing opinions.

We have learned that Elk Grove residents will be able to ride light rail free for a day to determine for themselves how they like utilizing the transit service.  More information to follow on the specific day.

Light Rail Arrives at Consumnes River College

The City Council’s 5-0 in agreement for the collaboration agreement comes just days after RT opened a new light rail extension at Consumnes River College. Hundreds celebrated at this ribbon-cutting event that extended light rail from the Meadowview Road Station over to the college campus.  That campus is located in South Sacramento.  Indeed, light rail is inching closer to Elk Grove. But, it has a long way to go yet, before something like this gets approved.
