Elderly Woman Seriously Hurt After Crash in Eureka

On Friday, June 19, 2020, one person suffered serious injuries during a car crash in Eureka. The Eureka Police Department (EPD) reported that the collision involved a single passenger vehicle as well as a parked Recology truck and happened in a residential area of Eureka. The injured driver was identified as a 70-year-old woman and was still in hospital custody as of the latest reports. However, her injuries were not expected to be life-threatening.

Crash Information

The accident occurred on the 6000 block of Myrtle Avenue on the northeastern edge of the city just north of Redmond Road. At around 1:00 in the afternoon, a Recology truck driver had been parked on Myrtle while he was working to remove organic waste in the area. According to reports, the vehicle’s hazard lights were on at this time.

The elderly woman was driving a Subaru Crosstrek north on Myrtle, approaching the Recology truck. For unknown reasons, the Subaru failed to avoid the large truck and collided with it head-on. Pictures of the accident scene show major damage to the smaller vehicle’s front end.

Response

Paramedics from local response agencies discovered the woman trapped inside of her vehicle at the accident scene. Responders performed an emergency extrication to remove her from the wrecked car before placing her on an ambulance. The woman was transported to St. Joseph hospital for treatment.  Whether or not the truck driver was injured during the incident has not been reported.

Investigation

Police have indicated that EPD is currently working to figure out what factors caused this car accident. Investigators haven’t mentioned any likely factors so far. Auto accidents similar to this one happen frequently and can be caused by things not under driver control like defective roads and/or faulty auto parts.

Accident Injuries

Being hurt in an auto accident can have a big impact on your life. Even minor injuries can be painful and difficult to recover from and accident survivors frequently need extensive medical care in order to fully regain their health. Elderly people are especially likely to suffer injuries that leave them with chronic issues like limited mobility or pain. Furthermore, health issues can mean having to make changes around your house for accessibility. These changes can be difficult to afford, especially if your injury has affected your income.

To make sure that you are able to afford the care you need, it’s important to reach out to a Eureka car accident lawyer with experience handling auto accident cases. By working with an attorney, it’s often possible for collision survivors to obtain the full amount of compensation they need to cover their medical bills as well as make up for other damages like personal suffering or lost income.
